In Sweden, Lucia is celebrated on the 13thof December. The celebration has pre-Christian roots to conjure the light back when the winter is at its darkest and was considered to be the Winters Solstice. The name Lucia comes from the word Lux in Latin, meaning Light and referring to the catholic Saint Lucia.
